It's time to layer! I just finished my very first crochet poncho using a YouTube tutorial by Casttañaz Crochets, and honestly—it’s the most fun I’ve had with a personal project in ages. I've worn the piece twice now: once on a date and again to the Ren Faire. I've fully embraced the poncho lifestile.

This all has inspired me to compile 20 crochet poncho patterns and tutorials for you! I've split the patterns into free and paid options so everyone can find something fun to make, no matter the budget.

Some Tips for Yarn Choice

Dressing for hot, summer days? Choose a lightweight cotton. Lower weight yarn and a larger hook can give you a garment perfect for airflow while still protecting your skin from the sun. Lots of cotton and cotton blend options will give your poncho great drape (I personally love a cotton/bamboo blend like Lion Brand Coboo.)

For colder weather, consider using an acrylic or wool yarn. You may want to choose a pattern with a tighter stitch pattern as well for extra warmth.
