One thing about me is I'm a blanket maker. I love a mindless project that I can work on for hours. When Ollie's bought out lots of Bernat Blanket Yarn from JoAnn's (RIP), I snatched up some skeins and waited for inspiration.
Cue the holiday season. I love seasonal blankets, but I feel a little guilty spending a lot of time crocheting a blanket I can only use two months a year. Using blanket yarn for this idea saved me so much time (enough time to hopefully make those homemade gifts for everyone I know).
PIN NOW, MAKE IT LATER

This blanket is primarily made of single crochets, and bobble stitches are used to make a Christmas tree pattern. You can add any border you want to this.
Note: This pattern uses US Terminology.
Materials:
8.0 mm hook
Scissors and tapestry needle
5 skeins of Bernat Blanket Yarn or equivalent weight yarn (Super Bulky/6) in the color
Smoky Green

Abbreviations and Required Stitches:
ch - Chain
sc - Single Crochet
st - Stitch
sl st - Slip Stitch
dc5tog - five double crochet together (bobble stitch)
RS - Right Side
WS - Wrong Side
YO - Yarn Over
FO - Fasten Off
Size:
45x60 inches
Gauge: 9 sts and 6 rows = 5x3 inches

Additional Notes:
The blanket is crocheted in repeating rows of single crochet. Bobble stitches are added in some rows to make the Christmas tree motif. Bobble stitches (dc5tog) are always crocheted with the wrong side facing you.
Every odd numbered row is crocheted with the Right Side (RS) facing you, and every even numbered row has the Wrong Side (WS) facing you.
This blanket is worked from the bottom up.
A chart is provided before the written pattern where bobble stitches are marked in black and every row with a bobble stitch is highlighted in green.
“sc X” means place 1 single crochet into each of the next X number of stitches.
The stitch count is always 79 sts.
Ch1 and turn after every row.

FO and weave in ends
To finish my blanket, I crocheted a simple half-double crochet border, adding three stitches at each corner so it lies flat.

Now that the work is done, it's time to snuggle up and watch some Christmas movies! If you show off your piece, please tag @kb_reads_and_makes_things on Instagram.
